Embarking on a journey through Pisa, Italy, unveils more than the world-renowned Leaning Tower. Pisa’s Unmissable Sights
Pisa really delivers with picture-perfect spots, with of course the Leaning Tower being the star of the show in the Piazza dei Miracoli.
We booked our tickets upon arrival, which gave us access to the tower, cathedral, baptistry, cemetary, and museum.
We celebrated our 7 year anniversary with a picnic on the grass right in front of the baptistry – seriously, I can’t recommend doing that enough.
Where To Dine
When it comes to culinary delights, Pisa does not disappoint. For an unforgettable pasta experience, head to Osteria dei Cavalieri, a charming restaurant known for its homemade pasta dishes and warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Another top recommendation is Ristorante Il Campano, where you can savor authentic Tuscan flavors in their expertly crafted pasta specialties. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a glass of local wine for the ultimate dining experience.
Exploring the Enchanting Villages of Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre, a string of five picturesque villages nestled along the rugged Italian Riviera coastline, is a true gem. These charming villages – Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore – are characterized by their vibrant colors, steep terraces, and stunning sea views.
We only had time to visit Manarola, and were absolutely blown away by its beauty. I’d definitely recommend stopping for a lemon gelato while there.
You can explore Cinque Terre by car which takes around an hour, or take a scenic train ride from Pisa, which takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Discovering the Historic Charm of Lucca
Just a 30-minute drive from Pisa lies the enchanting city of Lucca. This unique city is known for its well-preserved Renaissance-era city walls, which you can walk or cycle atop for stunning views of the city and surrounding countryside. Lucca’s history dates back to the Etruscan and Roman times, and its cobblestone streets are lined with medieval churches, grand palaces, and charming piazzas.
While in Lucca, visit the iconic Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, a circular square built on the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Climb to the top of the Guinigi Tower, which features a unique rooftop garden with oak trees growing at the top.
For a bite to eat, I cannot recommend enough Pizzeria Santa Maria. This was by far some of the best pizza we’ve ever had. Be sure to ask Roberto for his recommendations, you won’t be disappointed!
